Beneath the Surface
Oil on wood
A small still life in oil on wood, painted with a quiet nod to classical symbolism. A cluster of grapes spills from a porcelain bowl, joined by a ripe peach and a pale seashell — familiar objects, arranged to speak softly of fertility, sensuality, and desire.
The peach, with its velvety skin and full form, has long echoed themes of ripeness and touch. Grapes, abundant and bursting, hint at indulgence and the sweetness of the body. And the seashell — delicate, curved, and hollow — carries its own layered history of feminine symbolism.
I’m drawn to how these elements, so ordinary at first glance, can carry meaning just beneath the surface — saying something intimate without ever needing to say it out loud.
