The Distant Gaze

Oil on canvas

In this oil painting, we see Orly, painted from life over four separate times. She's in a wonderful pose, looking like she's just about to get up or perhaps just settled down, her thoughts seeming to be a million miles away.
What catches the eye is how the light plays on the fabric of her clothes and the sofa, creating a lovely shift from bright areas to soft, dark ones.
This piece has a classic feel, bringing to mind paintings by Breitner and showing the gentle touch of Asian art that influenced many artists then.
